The Black Women’s Health Alliance (BWHA), established in 1983 as the Philadelphia Black Women’s Health Project, is a private nonprofit community-based organization that defines, promotes, and maintains the physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being of African-American women, women of color and their families. |

Mission:
The mission of the Black Women’s Health Alliance is to improve healthcare outcomes and eliminate and/or reduce health disparities experienced by women of African Ancestry, other women of color, and their families through advocacy, education, research and support activities, programs and services.
Vision:
To be the premier advocacy, health education and training organization that serves the heath interests of African American and other women of color and their families, while promoting and supporting their interest, education and training in the health professions to further reduce health disparities.
PBWHA currently operates the following programs:
- Sister Reach HIV/AIDS Program: FREE HIV/AIDS WORKSHOPS AND TESTING
- Supporting Our Sisters (SOS) Program – FREE PARENTING CLASSES for caregivers: mothers, fathers, grandparents, foster parents, etc.
- Health-Wise Woman Diabetes Prevention Education and Immunization Awareness Program – diabetes education and outreach
- Focus Group Recruitment and Facilitation
- Internships for College Students and Summer Employment for High School Students
