Who We Are....
The Philadelphia Black Women’s Health
Project strives to promote positive healthcare outcomes for
Black women. We, as Black women, must define, promote and
maintain the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
well-being of Black women through education, training and
advocacy.
The Philadelphia Black Women’s Health Project is a
non-profit health, education, advocacy and self-help
organization. The Project serves teens, women, parents,
caregivers and children in a range of health care and social
issues that impact the health and wellness of the family.
Services include outreach, organizing self-help activities,
workshops on various health issues and programs that address
current health disparities in Black teens and women.
Founded in 1983, the Project is a chapter of the
National
Black Women’s Health Project, which is currently located in Washington, DC and
has over 50 affiliated chapters in the United States, Africa
and the Caribbean.
The
Project understands that only by collaborative efforts can
Black women present the powerful force necessary to
significantly reverse the pervasive and negative healthcare
trends. Health is not merely the absence of illness, but the
active promotion of emotional, mental and physical wellness
of this and future generations.
Remember:
October is Breast
Health Awareness Month.
